As a Greek-American, I am shocked to hear of this composer's views. Yet this article almost accuses all of the Greek people for one racist's actions, and that simply is not fair. Just because one person is an idiot does not mean that the rest of our people are too. During WWII my family hid jews from the nazis in their homes. It should not be forgotten that Theodorakis is a member of the Communist Party. As an American Christian who supports Israel, I implore you to report the news as it is presented. Allow the world to reach the conclusions that you so freely insert into your article. It will give you and this site more integrity in the long run. To label or imply that all of Greece shares the opinion of one is not only unjust, but places you in the same bad light as those you are writing about.

Theodorakis is not an anti-semite. For those that don't know Theodorakis and the greek resistance saved 8000 jews from the hands of the Nazis during world war II. I am appalled by the statement of Mikis Theodrakis. I am ashamed, and disgusted how he would speak for Greeks on a macro level. He talks about Greeks coming from such depth and intelliegence, yet his statement does not reflect that in the least.

If anything, Greeks should learn from the Jews.Through the centuries many countries attempted to make the Jews proselytes of their socio-religious paradigm. The have survived to maintain their identity. However, with the Greeks, we have trained our sons and daughters to look, and act as WASPy as possible just to "fit in". Personally, I feel our so called "pride" is just mere rhetoric. Do we hold any of our institutions sacred like the Jews do? What have the Greeks done to retain their history besides naming all their restaurants after thier great philosophers?
Furthermore, I have to admit, the Jews have a culture of success. They are taught from a young age that to be a scholar in the Torah, as well as the secular institutions. Is it not true that knowledge is power? That is why they choose to take the lead rather than follow.

And the Ancient Greeks had a proud culture in the age of the Old Testament, laying down the foundations to modern medicine, science, philosophy and law.

The Ancient Isralites on the other hand laid the foundations of religious bigotry, fanticism and ignorance. The barbaric fictional scripture, the Old Testament, is the Ancient Hebrew's "gift" to the world and it spawned the dangerous Abrahamic religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, plus 3000 years of mutual hatred.

first of all Theodorakis is the composer of the album "MAUTHAUSEN".I rate his composition as one of his best works. The lyrics were made by Iakovos Kabanellis, a great Greek-Jew writer and poet who survived from Mauthausen concentration camp.Iakovos Kabanellis is also the writer of a book about his experience in Mauthausen.I dare to say that Kabanellis' book can be combarable to Primo Levi's book about his experience in Auswich.
