Newsmax (www.newsmax.com) reports that French Arab Muslims, pro-Iraqi and pro-Palestinian "peace" protesters, attacked a group of Jews in Paris, France:

About a dozen Arab Muslims start pushing everyone around. They carry metal pipes and wear their "keffiehs" around their faces. They run from the back of the crowd and seem very angry. Their shrieks sound horrible to us and are something we thought we'd never hear again in public in Paris:

"There are Jews there!" [...]

Two hundred meters away, the gang turns into Saint-Claude street while other protesters, carrying the Palestinian flag, violently attack someone on the ground. A courageous Canadian man and a few women try to help the man on the ground. He gets up in a haze. He's 14-years-old and his face is completely bloody. His only sin: to be Jewish. [...]

On top of a car, a young Arab Muslim excites the crowd with a megaphone:

"We, the Muslims, we the Arabs, we can proudly walk in the street. They (the Jews) are forced to hide! The Coran says: whatever pain you have received, you can inflict. But patience is a virtue. Let's wait, the wheel will turn (see video).

French 'Peace' Activists Attack Jews, Salute bin Laden

PARIS – Daily anti-war demonstrations by high school and college students in France have brought about increased tensions between the country's estimated 5 million Muslims and French Jews.
A small group of Jewish students taking part in a peace demonstration Saturday in Paris were attacked and beaten by young Muslims also marching against U.S. intervention in Iraq.

The assault was videotaped by Digipresse, a small French news agency, but France's two state television stations, France 2 and France 3, refused to broadcast it on their evening news shows. They claimed that time constraints prevented them from showing the violence.

Paris Mayor Bertrand Delanoe condemned the attack on Monday, but reaction from the national government did not come until Tuesday.

'Scandalous Aggression'

Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy told the National Assembly that the "government is shocked at the inadmissible and scandalous aggression that a number of young people were victims to due to the sole fact that they are Jewish."

The video was finally shown on an evening newscast Tuesday, three days after the incident occurred.

According to Philippe Duprat, a reporter-cameraman for Digipresse who witnessed the violence, the events happened quickly and frighteningly spiraled out of control through the spread of rumors.

"Somebody said, 'There are Jews,'" said Duprat, "and a few seconds later, individual groups of Arabs left the march to follow the anti-Jewish call. They chased and hit the Jewish students and pushed down an older woman who tried to intervene."

After the incident, some of the aggressors defended their actions, saying it was because the Jewish students had insulted Muslim girls. Police said they found no evidence to back up that claim.

France's Own Underclass

With up to 90 percent of the population supporting President Jacques Chirac in his opposition to the war in Iraq, the French government has found itself for the first time sharing common ground with the country's largely disenfranchised Muslim youth, who often live in housing projects where drugs, violence and unemployment are rampant.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Jean Pierre Raffarin held a meeting with more than a dozen official representatives to make plans for the integration of young Arabs, often children of immigrants, and "unite the community of citizens around a shared project."

"What is extraordinary," said Jean-Louis Borloo, the minister for cities, "is that the whole immigrant community completely supports France's position. There has never been such national solidarity."

But for many of these young people of Arab descent, Saddam Hussein's position as a victim of American aggression has become associated with the Palestinian cause, and consequently anti-Israeli sentiment.

Osama T-Shirts

Some of the anti-war demonstrators have also been seen sporting Osama bin Laden T-shirts, and the tone of the demonstrations has been strongly anti-Bush and anti-American.

There have been complaints from Jewish university student groups that there are more pro-Palestinian banners in some of the campus demonstrations than anti-war ones.

Hachomer Hatzair, the Jewish organization whose members were attacked on Saturday, has asked organizers of the anti-war demonstrations, who include major political parties such as the Socialists and Communists, to post notices saying, "Anti-Semites, there is no room for you in our marches."

En marge de la manifestion contre la guerre en Irak du samedi 22 mars, une association juive pour la jeunesse, pourtant partisane d'une paix juste au proche-orient, a été prise pour cible par de prétendus militants pro-palestiniens.

Une dizaine de jeunes maghrébins bousculent soudain la foule qui déambule tranquillement en marge de la manifestation pour la paix boulevard Beaumarchais. Bâtons en main et keffiehs sur le visage, ils viennent de l?arrière du cortège et paraissent visiblement très énervés. Leur cri de ralliement résonne à nos oreilles comme une horreur que nous pensions ne plus jamais entendre en public et à Paris : «Y?a des juifs là bas». Nous interrompons notre reportage pour nous lancer dans leur sillage, comprenant immédiatement que la situation est explosive.

Deux-cent mètres plus loin, la bande tourne sur la droite dans la rue Saint-Claude tandis que d?autres manifestants brandissant des drapeaux palestiniens s?acharnent avec violence sur un corps au sol. Courageux, un cadreur canadien et quelques femmes interviennent pour aider l?homme à terre. Il se relève hagard. Il a quatorze ans et la tête pleine d'ecchymoses. Son seul tort : être juif.

Plus loin, la bande de soi-disants militants en faveur de la cause palestinienne vocifère des insultes contre la devanture d?une association juive pour la jeunesse. Sur le boulevard, d?autres manifestants sentent l?électricité dans l?air et investissent le haut de la petite rue. Les premiers refluent et leur expliquent la situation. Quelques insultes fusent, telles «Betar bâtard», et une cinquantaine de jeunes déferlent soudain en direction de l?association, faisant deux blessés sur leur passage. Une jeune maghrébine ceinte d?un drapeau palestinien est désespérée. «Arrêtez le racisme» hurle t-elle à l?attention des assaillants. Une jeune manifestante très remontée n?hésite pas à qualifier la bande de «dealers de shit manipulés par des gouvernements sans scrupules». Une femme d?âge respectable qui avait tenté de faire barrage de son corps à la meute se relève difficilement. Près d?une voiture un pacifiste est hors de la lui : «la violence vient de cette manifestation. J?ai tenté de m?interposer et je me suis fait tabasser » résume t-il.

«Nous les Arabes»

Juché sur le toit d?une voiture, un jeune avec un mégaphone harangue la foule : «Nous, les musulmans, nous les Arabes, nous pouvons nous promener la tête haute dans la rue. Eux (jes juifs, ndlr) sont obligés de se cacher. Un verset du Coran dit : Ce que l?on vous a infligé, vous pourrez l?infliger. Mais la patience est une vertue. Sachons attendre, la roue va tourner.» (cf. notre vidéo)

Le débordement a eu lieu lors du passage du cortège de l?association Capjpo, le Comité d'action pour une paix juste en Palestine, dont les militants les plus âgés interviennent pour figer la situation jusqu?à l?arrivée des CRS. Devant nos caméras, curieusement, ils légitiment l?agression : «Nous avons été provoqué par le Betar dont les membres ont agressé deux filles. Alors ils ont réagi violemment» explique un responsable, alors qu?un jeune tient à préciser que la femme est sacrée, qu?elle donne la vie et que leur intervention était nécessaire. Femmes que la meute n?a cependant pas prises en compte lors de son agression.

Les responsables de l?organisation juive Hachomer Haltzair nient toute provocation du Betar. «Trois jeunes étaient à proximité du cortège et se sont fait insulter. La situation a dégénéré en bagarre et ils sont tous les trois blessés». De fait, la préfecture ne fait pas état de deux femmes molestées. Ironie du sort, Hachomer Haltzair se revendique franchement de gauche et milite en faveur d?un dialogue pour la paix en Palestine.

Voici deux semaines, lors d?une conférence de réconciliation entre juifs et catholiques organisée à la Mairie de Paris (voir notre reportage), le ministre de l?intérieur Nicolas Sarkozy affirmait que «la France ne saurait tolérer la moindre menace sur les Juifs de France» citoyens de notre pays à part entière. Des propos visiblement peu pris en comptes dans les banlieues françaises.

Choquée par ces incidents, notre équipe - menacée de coups si elle continuait de filmer alors qu?elle a souvent donné la parole aux défenseurs de la cause palestinienne, a tenu à témoigner de la situation en se rendant dans les rédactions de France2 et France3. Jugeant la situation effectivement préoccupante, les rédacteurs en chef des JT nous ont cependant indiqué ne pas disposer du temps suffisant pour traiter du sujet. En nous promettant d?y revenir...
