The Jerusalem Post (www.jpost.com) reports that Israeli soldiers were able to stop a Palestinian homicide/suicide bomber from deliberately murdering unarmed women and children:

A would-be suicide bomber and another terrorist were shot and killed by soldiers at the Jit junction, between Kedumim and Nablus, in Samaria Thursday night.

Soldiers stopped a Palestinian taxi and asked its three occupants to get out for a security check. When they noticed that one of them was wearing an explosives belt, the terrorist yelled, "Allah Akbar," and started to approach the soldiers, who shot him.

"The terrorist fell and blew up, a second terrorist was killed in the blast, and a third wounded and treated by IDF medics before being taken to a hospital in Israel," the IDF Spokesman said. None of the soldiers were wounded.

Sappers inspected the car and discovered a bomb inside a bag that had been placed in the trunk. They safely detonated it.

Since October 2000, when Yasser Arafat and his thugs decided to wage war instead of peace, over 180 of these Palestinian murderers were stopped short of killing unarmed women and children. On the other hand, over 100 homicide/suicide bombings did occur - see the Palestine page for the full list.

A would-be suicide bomber and another terrorist were shot and killed by soldiers at the Jit junction, between Kedumim and Nablus, in Samaria Thursday night.

Security forces had been placed on high alert in the Sharon district, the South, and along the Green Line Thursday after intelligence warnings that terrorists planned to carry out a suicide bombing. The high alert for the Sharon district was downgraded after the would-be suicide bomber was killed.

In an unrelated development, a Fatah Tanzim terrorist network that had been operating in the Yatta area in the southern Hebron Hills was recently uncovered and its leaders and some cell members were arrested, the Shin Bet and Judea and Samaria Police reported. It was responsible for dozens of shooting and bomb attacks in the area in which five Israelis were killed, according to security sources.

The terrorists were planning numerous attacks, including a suicide bombing in Jerusalem, using a truck to run over a group of Israelis, murdering the Jewish employer of one of the cell members, perpetrating a shooting attack on a bus in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Musrara, and murdering the Jewish employer of several Israeli Arabs.

According to security sources, the terrorists were also involved in the abducting and subsequent murders of several Palestinians suspected of collaborating with Israel.

Attacks perpetrated by cell members included the October 8 shooting attack at the Zief junction in which Yehuda Walk was killed and three civilians wounded, the July 26 attack in which Yossi, Hanna, and Shuval Dickstein and St.-Sgt. Eliezer Leibovitz were killed, and a February 25 drive-by shooting in which Mordechai Struck was moderately wounded.

The terrorist suspects were arrested in a coordinated operations carried out by the Shin Bet, the IDF, and police that also took place in areas under Palestinian Authority control where the suspects sought refuge.

Meanwhile, in the West Bank Thursday:

An undercover Border Police unit arrested the head of Islamic Jihad in Tulkarm, Abed al-Nasser Nimer Aweis, 39. Israeli security forces dressed in civilian clothing entered Aweis's store in the city center and told customers to remain silent as they handcuffed Aweis and led him out, according to Palestinian reports.

Security forces demolished the Nablus home of Hamas activist Firas Feidi, who was involved in the June 18 suicide bombing near Beit Safafa in Jerusalem in which 19 Israelis were killed and 50 wounded, and the October 27 suicide bombing in Ariel in which two IDF officers and a senior warrant officer were killed and 19 others wounded.

Seventeen fugitives, some of them affiliated with Tanzim and Hamas, were arrested in the West Bank early Thursday morning. The arrests took place in Nablus, Abwan, north of Ramallah, Na'ameh, and Kalkilya.

Soldiers shot and wounded one Palestinian youth in Nablus after spotting two youths carrying firebombs in an area where a number of clashes have occurred. They arrested the second youth, who was unharmed.

During the day the curfew was lifted on Jenin, Kalkilya, and Tulkarm, with Hebron and Ramallah remaining curfew free.

In the Gaza Strip:
A bomb blew up near an IDF bulldozer in Morag in Gush Katif.

Palestinian gunmen fired shots and threw grenades at soldiers near Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, and fired at an IDF outpost near Gadid in Gush Katif.
